Me, Playing from Quilt Paint Create

Happy Thanksgiving!

My November OMG is to finish the fused fabric challenge piece. For that to happen, I needed to start.

First I stitched over the fused fabric with variegated thread, making sure to catch each fused shape at least once. Spoiler alert, I should have stitched in lines or a grid to catch each fused shape multiple times.

Then I cut windows in a plain piece of paper in the shape of a circle, fan, square and rectangle. The rectangle looked best. I cut the fused fabric into rectangular pieces.

Sunday Stash December 12, 2021 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers.

Nothing much went on in the sewing room this week. I had Guild one night and other things going a few nights. Tis the season.

I have a small sample started to test techniques for the challenge quilt.

It’s still in the early stages.

Fabric In: 29.5 yards

Fabric Out: 12.125 yards

Net Fabric In: 17.375 yards

Wood Stain Test from Quilt Paint Create

Some ideas just won’t go away, and painting fabric with wood stain is one of them.
I looked it up online to see if it had been done before. Most sites discouraged using stain on fabric because of the chemicals in the stain. Since the fabric won’t be used in clothing, I did it anyway.
I used two different stains, an oil based stain (brown) and a water based stain (cranberry). I painted with q-tips to avoid cleaning brushes.

Lessons Learned from Quilt Paint Create

I’ve been sorting through the sewing room and reorganizing. It’s a time consuming process. I went into it knowing I have too much stuff and it isn’t well organized, but other lessons emerged from the debris.
I don’t play enough.
I’ve posted about that several times over the years. Why is it so hard to make time for creative play? I get too caught up in my list and finishing the things on my list. I need to knock it off.
